Donor Eggs - Southern California
Egg donation has been performed in the USA since 1986.
It has been offered at our Center since 1990, where we've been helping Southern California couples become loving parents.
In egg donation, eggs from a young woman are fertilized
with the sperm of the recipient's partner to create embryos.
These embryos are transferred into the patient's
uterus, and the pregnancy proceeds from there.
If you choose egg donation, you'll need to decide whether to use a friend or family member's
eggs, anonymous donor's eggs, or, if your partner's sperm
aren't healthy, donor embryos — the combined sperm and
eggs of known or anonymous donors.
The recipient's and donor's menstrual cycles are "synchronized",
using medications, to insure that the recipient's endometrium
is prepared to accept the embryo when it is ready for transfer.
The donor receives injectable medications (FSH) to stimulate
the development of multiple eggs. Once the eggs are mature,
the donor is scheduled for retrieval and the recipient couple
arrives at the Institute on the day of retrieval.
The male provides a semen specimen for egg insemination. After
insemination, the fertilized eggs are placed in an incubator.
The resulting baby is born to the surrogate, and will be returned
to the patient and her partner.
These procedures enable women with severely diminished ovarian
function, or severe genetic diseases to carry a child conceived
with their husband's sperm, and for women without a uterus to
have a child related to them and their partner.
